A practical word and character counter
Writing to a limit is easier when the important numbers update as you type. This free word counter analyzes your text in the browser and gives you a quick, readable view of its length, structure, and most-used words.
What does the Word Counter do?
It counts words, characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and spaces. It also estimates reading time and highlights frequent keywords, helping you understand more than the raw length of a document.
Because the analysis happens locally, you can check drafts, notes, essays, or unpublished material without uploading the text.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the Text field.
- Review the live totals in the Analysis panel.
- Check the keyword list for repetition or topic focus.
- Copy the analysis or clear the text when finished.
Who is it useful for?
Students can check assignment limits, writers can review pacing, and editors can spot dense paragraphs or repeated terms. It is also useful for marketers preparing ad copy, SEO titles, descriptions, social posts, and articles with specific length requirements.
What counts as a word?
The counter identifies word-like groups in the text rather than simply splitting at every space. Results may differ slightly from a word processor when text contains unusual punctuation, symbols, or languages with different word-boundary rules.
